In today’s time, social media plays an enormous role in shaping
one’s identity. The most common idea about social media an individual has is perhaps
it’s the best modernization which enables everyone to connect with each other,
share pictures, share ideas and much more. But is social media an accurate
representation of self’s identity? The most problematic thing about social
media is it enables us to hide behind the sound, attractive content we post and
let the viewers make a judgement on that.
Social media can also create the need to prove something for an
individual and act as an escape from the real world and skewing away one’s identity
to portray a totally different character on the screen. There are many people
who don’t have textbook living. What impact do this unreal social posts have on
them psychologically? Maybe just making them hate their life more.
According to Tim Rayner, posting and creating some good piece of
content has much more effect than just gaining some social fame. It makes us
see ourselves as the one we portray and refine our view on the world defining
self.
